There are many reasons why people buy expired domain names. One of the reasons these recently deleted domains are attractive is the notion that they are more favored by the search engines than new domains, and many of them carry good page rank. For example, many expired yahoo domains and those found in DMOZ contains page rank 3 and more. Furthermore, buying yahoo expired domains could save you a few hundred dollars a year.

Yea, I’ve definitely noticed a domain slowdown effect on my computer repair website. It’s 2 months, 20 days old, we’re ranking on page 1 for some terms, but are now stagnant, no matter what we’re doing. My competitors have little against me, SEO wise, I’m doing some pretty extraordinary, high quality things, and still not ranking too well.

Time. Time will fix this for sure.

@John – Either works, and of course even a “general” broader one tends to work for relevance.

@Mike There is no relationship between a domain having no page rank and it being treated as a new domain – Age is age. Of course no pagerank means you dont have a lot of linkjuice to pass on but you can chance that by adding links to the domain.

So rest assured all is ok with aged domain without pagerank but do make sure you invest the time to build links to them.

I have purchased several aged domains with ages ranging from 6 to 11 yrs old. Now I am reading posts online that state that because the domains have no pagerank they are just like having a new domain. I thought I would at least be able to build up links faster due to the age of the domain. Please share with me your experience on this.

which do you reccomend then

buying aged domains with a close keyword match ?
or
a new domain with an exact keyword match?

Sometimes you have to buy a new domain name to match your specific niche and just build it up. Then you want to make sure the search competition is low around 10,000 when you put the domain name in quotes using Google search engine. The same goes for title and keywords. Premium domain names can be very expensive. Don’t foget to use the Google Keyword Tool when slecting a domain name for competition results.

I’ve ranked very well using this method. An example would be “diet healthy tips” which I develop diethealthytips.com. The domain name was 11.99 at Godaddy a while back. Now the competition just over hundred thousand for that keyword. Currently my site registered on DMOZ, I really haven’t submitted it for backlinks yet. But it’s on the first page of Google for the moment.
