The Ten Essential Wordpress Plugins For Internet Marketers
Here is our list of what we believe is the ten essential WordPress plugins for Internet Marketers. Please feel free to comment below and let us know what you think. If you have any suggestions of other plugins leave the details below.
Note that the list is not in any particular order.
As the name suggest a fantastic “all in one” plugin for SEO on your blog. Saves you having to load a number of separate plugins to achieve the same end result.
Essentially this plugin allows you to easily edit and control the Title, Meta description, and Meta tags for every post you make. This overrides Wordpress annoying default of using your blog tagline asd your meta description and keywords.
It works well with other plugins in our experience.
This is great for automatically finding relevant tags for your posts. Whilst it’s generally a better idea to add your own tags that you have researched, this plugin looks at what is popular based on your content and adds these popular tags. Can be a real time saver. Using tags is incredibly important in blogs. Check out our video on using tags for more information.
It’s essential for you to have an xml sitemap which can help you get indexed quickly as well as rank well in the search engines. This plugin creates an xml sitemap for Google, Yahoo, Msn, and Ask.com
#4 Akismet
Got Spam? Want to stop getting it? Use Akismet. It’s not perfect but helps you to dramatically reduce the amount of spam you will receive on your blog.
While there are a heap of plugins to product stats, many are far to complex. This plugin focuses on just the most popular metrics a blogger wants to track and provide them in a clear and concise interface (pageviees, which posts/pages are most popular, where traffic is coming from, etc). All on a single page. Simple is Good. Less is more.
#6 Max Blog Press Unblockable Popup
Whoops did I say that? An unblockable popup? Yes this can be useful when your not happy to just ask people to opt-in to your newsletter or whatever, and would prefer to not so subtly jam it down your visitors throat. This plugin gives you a choice of doing that.
Got some pages of content not on your blog that you want to include in your blogs RSS feeds? This plugin enables you to do just that. It’s simple, effective and works a treat.
Forget how important it is to label your images for SEO goodness? This plugin automatically updates all images with proper ALT and TITLES attributes.
You can get a lot of serious traffic from images. Just read our post about how we received 17,500 visitors from an image search.
Add buttons to enable your visitors to do just that to your posts. A great way to build backlinks, and drive more traffic to your website.
#10 Wordpress Backup
You do backup don’t you? This is one of the most overlooked functions and is so important. Can you imagine having to re-create your blog from scratch? With this plugin you don’t need to (imagine). It backups your WordPress site. Simple, automatic, use it. Enough said!
Ok I know we said ten, but we have another plugin that we believe should be on the list.
#11 RSS Web Traffic & Backlinks Plugin
OK.. we may be a bit biased, but we believe our RSS Plugin – The “Web Traffic Genius Software” that automatically gives you targeted web traffic & backlinks is a vital cog in the arsenal of Internet Marketers.
Just install and set it up it and then each time you post you automatically build targeted web traffic and backlinks. It doesn’t get much easier than that. We include detailed videos showing you how to install it and easily set it up. It’s true “set and forget” autopilot traffic software.
We hoped you have enjoyed reading up on our list of the 10/11 essential plugins for Wordpress to suit Internet Marketers. Please feel free to comment on any and all of these plugins, we would love to hear from you.
Cheers

Since building my list is a priority for most sites I create, I really like unblockable popups… specifically, I only use on-exit popups.
I figure I give people a choice. They can either play nice and sign up in the box or in the inconspicuous link in any of my menus, or they can get my unblockable popup “jammed down their throat” as you say.
Apparently over the last six months, the majority of my subscribers prefer the latter. Including unsubscribes, I’ve seen a 250% increase in confirmed optins as a result of putting an unblockable popup.
This is especially important for drive-by voyeurs… like traffic from Stumbleupon. In fact, it actually makes Stumbleupon advertising a feasible temporary solution for traffic generation since I know every single one of those visitors will be exposed to my irresitable high value bribe… err, I mean offer.
Hi
Thankyou for a very informative post. Most of my day is cruising around the net looking for make money online related material and this post on 10 Wordpress Plugins is fantastic. And I understand why you couldn’t stop at 10.
Steve
I use the RSS php file and find that rssmountain always rejects the submission. I simply then go and do a manual submission.
Will you be adding more directories anytime soon? I hope you do.
Terry
Hi Tim & Anthony,
Already using a couple of these, but it’s really handy to get a heads up on the others, and the help with getting going, and getting traffic that you guys are giving out is just fantastic.
Thanks
Debbie
PS. Interesting Terry that you get rejected by RSSMountain. That one always goes through for me, and the others sometimes have hiccups.
Hi Anthony,
Thanks for yet again a great post.
I have to admit I didnt know about some of the plugins listed here. I’ll sure try out the rss include, backup and stats ones.
Regards
William
What a great post. I have been having some problems with the free rss plugin, but I have to say Tim is a lifesaver. He has been helping me get this running, and it is free. He does not have to do this, but he is. Wow what a great guy, I really appreciate it. Well today, it works like a champ, thanks to Tim and his caring nature. Thanks Tim for helping me with this…
Steve
PS
I will be making sure that I have all of the above mentioned plugins on my sites for sure, thanks guys…
You’ve listed some essential plugins but I think you missed 3.
1. Dagon Design Sitemap Generator. http://www.dagondesign.com/articles/sitemap-generator-plugin-for-wordpress/ This plugin dynamically creates a visitor friendly sitemap AND my stats show search engine spiders love it too.
2. Max Blog Press Ping Optimizer. http://www.maxblogpress.com/plugins/mpo/ This plugin prevents post edits from being pinged which is a good way to keep blog directories happy. You can also set it so blog directories aren’t pinged too often.
3. Other Posts from Cat by Dagon Design http://www.dagondesign.com/articles/other-posts-from-cat-plugin-for-wordpress/ This dynamically adds a present number of posts from the same category which helps build your inbound link count in Yahoo and MSN.
The importance of basic search engine optimization cannot be overstated.

SEO Tips for Beginners
Hi Tim and Athony,
Great list.
You inspired me to create my own list of top 10 plugins which I find impossible to live without. Check my post here:

Hi Tim and Anthony,
Like always, a helpful and usable post from you guys.
You really know your stuff and I always appreciate your communications.
Thanks!
Rosie
Hi guys,
I’m trying to implemente your great tips in some of my new sites. I’ll keep you updated with the results.
Now I got some questions:
1- With sites like PIngomatic.com, Pingoat.com, etc., do you have to be registered to the sites they will send your ping at? I.E., I’m not registered at weblogs.com, if I use Pingomatic will my feeds be published on Weblogs.com?
2- I’m going to use your free tool for WP to have 5 backlinks for every new post. But I was wondering, isn’t it a sort of automated system that can leave the infamous footprints and make us risk some sort of Google penalty?
3- The videos are great, but could you talk a little slower please?
Being me Italian and not a native English speaker, sometimes I don’t understand if you speak too quick. Anyway, I think I’ve catched up what I previously missed through your free ebook.
I hope to have explained myself in a decent English. Keep up the good work!
PF
@Pierfrancesco
Thanks for leaving us a comment.
1. No you do not need to register with those pinging sites.
2. No, we don’t believe it will, because it’s creating a brand new rss feed (separate to the existing blog) and posting to several reputable rss sites.
3. Will try my best
Cheers
Tim
Hi i had used your free software. In your blog it states the value at $47 . Of course the free version has limitation. In the readme txt file with the free version – there is an option to purchase the professional version. I went to the site and it says it cost $97. I had thought it was only $47.
April,
The free version is valued at $47, you have that already
The professional version (when released) will be $97. This product is still in beta testing.
I hope that clarifies.
Cheers
Tim
I love lists of plugins – so thank you!
There’s a couple here I am not familiar with including the pop up plugin.
got to bite the bullet on list building!
All The Best

nice list of plugins, but I think it’s a little light on the meat so to speak…
An EXTREMELY convenient plugin is the automatic upgrade plugin. It makes it so you don’t have to find an updated version of a plugin and upload it yourself. All you do is click the upgrade button and you’re set.
Another great one is the Optinpop plugin. The paid for version is the best but you can still utilize the free version.
The last one I’ll mention, even though there are many more I use on my blog, is the WP WishList Plugin which turns your WP Blog into a membership site… VERY convenient.
Thanks for the post my marketing Ninja!!
AWESOME BACKLINKS PLUGIN TOOL. HOPE IT WORKS WELL FOR ME. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS AND ESPECIALLY AS ITS FREE!
Tim
Love your stuff, and have learned a LOT! However, as a Psychiatrist, trainer, educator, mentor, and director of training of one of the largest “entrepreneur” groups here in Knoxville, TN – I’ve got to say SLOW DOWN! I just listened to your RSS #2, and was completely lost. Needs context, clearer explanations via context, and how-to in a pace that is understandable to the average person…
Makes no sense to publish stuff that “loses” most people.
The PDF’s help, but the real-time explanation is what “hooks” people, or NOT…
PLEASE, slow down, and please provide more detail and context, for us “slow” ones…
All the best!

Hi Tim and Anthony,
I’ve got the web traffic genius program.
Does it not do the same thing as the “RSS Includes Pages” Plug in does?
If not, can a future version include that capability?
Thank you,
Steve Shaw
Hi,
The Web Traffic Genius is the new name for our upgraded RSS Power Plus Plugin.
