4 Tips To Increase Web Traffic And They Are Not What You May Think!

This post was written by admin on
Posted Under: Web Traffic

So you have a new web site,  you have your website developed and uploaded, you’ve tried to increase web traffic and you are ready for the money to start rolling in.

C’mon money…

Or perhaps you have had a website going for a while and have been disappointed in the results of getting free web traffic. Perhaps you are now considering that now is the time to try something else.

Then again you may be an affiliate looking for quick ways to get traffic to an affiliate program that does not involve using PPC (pay per click).

For the vast majority of us, the results can leave a lot to be desired. We put all our initial efforts into getting the website to look perfect, adding the options for people to buy our products, or getting the ads fitting in nicely with our content, or our CPA (Cost Per Action) offers ready to rock and roll, etc.

But no matter how nice the website looks, it’s not going to do you much good without traffic arriving to your website is it? This is a problem many beginning (and intermediate) internet marketers make.

They do all the preparation of the website first, including choosing the products, etc without doing any research.

Big problem!

And figuring out how to get web traffic is something they will get around to later.

How Do I Get A Heap Of Web Traffic?

I’m going to suggest this is the wrong way of doing things.

Instead you should follow the steps below.

Step 1. Research your market and keywords first.

This is the most important thing you need to do first. Spend time looking at your proposed niche, and find out what people are looking for, and then sell it to them. Sounds simple right, but again and again I see people developing or promoting products that they believe are of interest. Let me tell you it’s not what you think people want, it’s all about what your potential visitor will find interesting and useful.

How are you going to find out what people want? By spending the time to research it. Spend time looking in forums, competitor websites, and other websites to see what people are talking about, what their problems are, what they have issues with and then sell THAT to them.

Get it in your mind that you want to really help people. You genuinely should be aiming to help people, and not just try to make a pile of cash from them. By putting the needs of your target audience first, you will find your results will improve dramatically.

Remember the market will tell you what they want to buy. Don’t second guess! Research!

Step 2 Targeted web traffic.

Now is the time to be figuring out how you are going to be getting targeted web traffic to your website.

You should have a firm idea(s) in mind. Here are a few suggestions. Article Marketing, Blog Posts, RSS Syndication, Blog post commenting, web 2.0 promotion, more traditional SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

I will explain each of this in subsequent articles ( and might even get my brother to put his guitar down to help!), but suffice to say if you do not know of many or any of these techniques, now is the time to be researching how to do this.

Keyword research is also vital. You need to do some proper research into the keywords you aim to use with a view again of web traffic. Which keywords are you going to target? How much traffic do these keywords get each day? How much competition do they have?

These are questions you need to answer now before proceeding further.

Step three is about conversion.

In other words how are you going to make money from these visitors? e.g. converting visitors into customers.

Are you selling a product? Do you have ads on your web pages? Are you aiming to get the visitor to sign up to a newsletter and promote to them via email?

You should have clear goals here of how you intend to make money, and also research what your competitors are doing. Before proceeding further.

The reality is that in some niches you will have less than desirable results with a particular form of type of monetization, and research is the key to figuring this out.

Step 4 -  We get to the least important of the 4 factors and that is the product!

You have done your research, figured out how you are going to get web traffic, and have a plan on how to monetize your visitors.

Now you can think about the product! Most underachieving internet marketers start with the product first and wonder why the have no sales, or no visitors! They have not spent the time finding out what their audience wants and how they are going to get them to their website.

I hope this article starts you thinking about how you are going to get targeted web traffic to your website. With a plan and a clear direction you can succeed.

Make sure you take the time to figure out a plan of attack before you go running off to produce a product.  Do the research first!

    Hi: Guys
It is an hour to learn from two of the brightest Mind when coming to marketing online.
The tips you share here are very useful and i have enjoy reading them. As I am a newbie myself who have a lot to learn I am always looking forward to this kind of information.
Thanks again for sharing, as I am definately going to implement them. in the beggining I was just writing Blog post whithout doing Keyword Research, and it was one of those costly newbie mistakes as it take almost the same effort to write a well research Blog post, compared to writing one without researching your topic first.

A common mistake is underestimating the role of market research. Confucius said that: “No wind is not good for the ship, who does not know its destination port”.

    Hey guys!

I have been a follower of you since your RSS feed product, which still gets my blogs a lot of traffic. It really helped me a lot.

I get asked by a lot of clients why they are not ranking for the most competitive keywords in their market. My answer is always – why did you choose that keyword?

They really need to focus on the derivative keywords to the main, high competition keywords. If you want to rank for Internet Marketing, you should focus on Internet Marketing Training, Internet Marketing ebook, etc. These would be more likely to find a buyer than internet marketing alone. (Although I do not recommend anyone go after the I’M niche on its own – but rather go for subsets of the niche).

That is my two cents! Keep up the great content!

Thanks for the great post, short, sharp and straight to the point. I couldn’t agree the more with what’s been emphasized namely that putting the cart before the horse so to speak (creating a product first instead of doing proper market research) is a recipe for disaster.
This interesting post reminds me of why Apple succeeds where many has failed. Apple create product that sells while others trying to sell products they create.
All in all a good informative article indeed!

Thank you for that really helpful information. What you are saying is the truth as I have researched RSS and have tested it, and I know it works. There is no denying that your software will work as well, and buying that is next on my list.
The idea that people have to learn to operate in reverse, (i.e. research and choose keywords first then lauch site) is a hard one to swallow for most, as that runs contrary to standard brick and mortar way of thinking, but again, its absolutely true and oh how I wish I had done that years ago!

    Good stuff!

    Hi Tim & Anthony,

Great tips. I too have just gone through the 12 Steps program and am starting to go back through and implement much of the techniques.

One question I have about RSS. Is automated RSS (via WTG) appropriate for low competition sites?

    Thanks!

I do everything you’ve recommended, and I have made first page Google for 14 different keyword terms. My only situation is staying there. My website is relatively new. I read were Google, and the other search engines put your site through a dance when you first start out. The info said that it normally stabilizes in 6 months. So, I’ll see in about 2 months.

    Thanks and God bless.

    Hi Guys,

I’ve watched your 12 Steps to page one course and the Video course. What a wealth of interesting info you offer. I’ve learnt so much from watching the vids much of which was a blank area to me, Like someone once sead, “You don’t know what you don’t know” I have yet to get moving with my marketing campaign but with the new info I have received from you guys, I feel more confident to test the water

Many thanks for all you have given. I will be sure to recommend others to your pages

I agree, it is really best to start with these things. If the basics you mention are not in place, you have no firm ground to build your business on.

You dont have a hope of making any money if you have not got the potential of traffic and the research you do before lauching out is the way to find out if you have that traffic potential. Then it is just a matter of attracting it – which is easier said than done of course.

  • Andrew

Hi, I used your 12 day to page one free course and found it great fun and interesting and I did manage to get one of my sites to page 2 on Google. I’m sure if I re ran the course and concentrated a bit harder I would get to page 1.

My question is, I have an ecommerce website in a highly competitive market, my 2 main keywords attract 36,500,000 and 17,200,000 results respectively for broad search and 13,200,000 and 24,600 results respectively for phrase search. Would your “Page One on Google – Web Traffic & Conversion Formula” SEO methods succeed in getting my site to page 1 on Google? Many thanks
